Dutch racing driver Bas Schothorst is considering to sue a fellow driver for an attempted manslaughter. Schothorst was racing this Saturday in the Eurocup Megane Trophy at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona and was chased and finally t-boned by a teammate of his main rival for the championship he told to newspaper De Telegraaf.

The driver in question, Navajo from Oregon Team 3, was immediately suspended for life after the race by Renault Motorsport for all their brand related classes. The organizers are pushing to get this ban adopted by the FIA.

So, I don't want to hear complains anymore that 90 days is very very long.

For now, this ban is only for driving one car/class :P

Coming to think of it: I wish we could do that in LFS as well; some drivers are just a danger in one car. Would be great to ban them only for using that car :thumb:

Well, I can sort of understand people doing this in game, but in RL :o
How stupid you have to be to do this and kiss your racing career good bye :thumb_d:

Indeed!

I thought that nowhere on a track they used those red/white wall blocks but they are actually in the middle of the unused part of the track too. Guy was really thinking this was LFS? :[

Missing some hay bales in that long corner there.

"Career" is perhaps an overstatement. This guy was no more than an aged "gentleman" driver, who appeared from the wildness to make up the rear of the Megane Trophy Eurocup for 3 years now. 23 races, no podium, no pole, no fastest lap, only 7 points in total, he wasn't exactly the "next big thing". And the standards aren't very high in this series, mind you.

Sadly it's not rare to see people with more money than common sense in motorsports  But I guess this one will have to pick up his check and find another hobby now.

Oh, and if anyone's interested, here's more background on the incident:

Quote:
for the vast majority of you not at all familiar with the megane trophy...

it's basically 2 teams against each other. the dutch tds racing guys and the italian oregon team. grids are usually around the 12-15 car region. oregon are the stancombe of the megane trophy. they've been yelled at for all sorts of things, for example last season at the final race, the race winner (and clear champion) stopped to pick up the team manager for a lap of honour straight after the chequered flag. it's mostly sporting details, but the driving standards in the series as a whole are absolutely terrible and unfortunately not dealt with properly. there was a very stupid incident in qualifying at the hungaroring in september that only resulted in a small fine and a grid drop of 4 places, which was suspended from the ring anyway. in the single seater stuff the same stewards are normally relaxed about the definition of racing incidents, they don't jump to penalise anything unless it's necessary and deserves it but 19 decisions out of 20 are sensible ones. as a result there's no real problems with stupid driving in either of the spindly series.

you can find the actual stewards decision on the navajo incident here:

http://intranetwsr.alkamelsystems.com/R ... Nr%201.pdf

but it's fair to say there's substantial beef between tds and oregon, and with the grid size as it is, they're somewhat stuck between a rock and a hard place.
