My opinion: Your fault.
He showed caution previously. You weren't fighting with anyone. His exit was better, you knew he was going faster overall and you probably saw he disappeared on the inside. In my opinion no need to pretend he does not exist in this specific situation while you do not have a fight for position.

My opinion: both fault! If You are lapped then pass on strights or something where is enough room.(That's how i do) And of course need to watch in mirrors...never knows what others can do there in back.
